This policy outlines how Anderson Browne Solicitors Limited applies interest to funds held on behalf of our clients in our client bank account, in accordance with Rule 7 of the SRA Account Rules.
We will calculate interest on completion of any client instruction or return of funds. The interest due (if any) will be added to the balance owed to the client, less any fees owed to us.
It is important to note that the interest rate we can offer (based on what we receive from our bank) is lower than other investment options and the Bank of England base rate. This is due to the interest rate we receive from our bank. Currently, we offer an interest rate of 1.00%.
Money held in a general client account, we will account for interest when it is fair and reasonable to do so, based on the following principles and practices:
Interest will be calculated and paid by reference to applicable rates over the period for which we hold cleared funds.
All interest paid under this policy is paid gross. It is your responsibility to notify HMRC of any interest received and to calculate and make payment of any tax due as a result.
It may be that the cost of dealing with the interest payable outweighs the sum due. If you do not wish to receive interest, then you may opt-out by informing this firm’s Compliance Office for Finance in writing.
This policy is reviewed from time to time to ensure that we deliver a fair outcome to our clients. Any changes will take immediate effect whether or not it is notified to clients.
